Hopkins, MN Bungalow

I have a fondness or story and a half expansion bungalows and this Hopkins, MN home is one of the reasons.  Most of these homes were built in the early years after World War II and in general are well built and use hi-quality materials.  As the name implies, they were expandable as we of the baby boom generation proved as we made an appearance.

The clean lines and simple exterior of this home foreshadowed what was necessary on the inside, which was less is more.  We cleaned it up and stripped it down.  The kitchen needed to be completely redone and reoriented and while the results are simple, they are a great improvement over the old kitchen.  The bathroom, on the other hand, was an art deco beauty which had been covered with carpet and junk over the years.  We uncovered and cleaned the tile, resurfaced the tub, and put in a pedestal sink and replaced the toilet.  A neutral paint colored allowed the beauty of the original tile work to shine through.  (Click images for larger view )
