Q. Do Green homes or remodeling projects cost more than traditional construction?
A. Green construction is, at this moment, still a small percentage of total construction and more data is needed. In Minnesota, the Minnesota Green Star project is gathering more definitive data about costs and payback times. What we understand now is that Green home construction costs 2-3% more that traditional construction and that with a variety of rebates, tax credits and reduced operating costs the cost differential should be recouped in one year.
